Atoms and Light

Atoms are so small that even the smallest light wave skips over them like they're not there. We can see objects because the atoms that make up the object are joined together and act like a single structure.
To see atoms, individual electrons need to be streamed at the object so the individual atoms reflect the electrons back towards the sensor.

It is very difficult to picture how small an atom is, a single cell is the size of a city compared to an atom. They are usually a single micron across.

They are smaller than the light waves.
