There are two things you brain covers up. When the eye moves and a small spot where the optic nerve exits the retina.
Saccadic suppression – while your eyes jump, the brain briefly blanks out the visual stream so you don’t see a blurred smear.
Blind-spot filling – at the point where the optic nerve leaves the retina there are no photoreceptors; the brain simply invents the missing patch from surrounding information.
